Navy Day in Russia

Navy Day is a national holiday in Russia celebrated on the last Sunday of July. The Russian Navy or, as it is called in Russia, VMF is the naval part of the Russian Armed Forces.

The regular Russian Navy was created by Peter I in October 1696. He also established the symbols of the Russian Navy, the St. Andrew’s flag and ensign, and most of its customs and traditions. Russia has Pacific (head quarter in Vladivostok), Northern (Severomorsk), Baltic (Kaliningrad), Black Sea (Sevastopol) and Caspian Sea (Astrakhan) fleets. Navy Day is marked with military parade, military equipment exhibitions and theatrical performances with Neptune (the god of the sea).

Most of the spectators are wearing black and white stripes for the occasion as it is the color of the Russian Navy.
