The World's Largest Planetarium in St. Petersburg
A new Planetarium will be opened on November, the 4th and it is going to beat the Guinness World Record.
The Planetarium is housed in the Russia's largest gas holder which was turned into the state-of the art facility using the best IT and engineering solutions. The Planetarium will offer a projection system comprised of 40 high definition projectors, a unique acoustic features with eight-channel sound system and a content developed by the best media designers. The dome will be 37 meters in diameter and 8x8K with the prospect of expanding to 16x16K resolution.
After watching a 40 minute show about the Cosmos, the Big Bang and the Galaxy the visitors will be able to navigate the starry sky with the help of touch screens. The construction of the hall will allow visitors to be photographed on the background of the cosmos. There also will be an interactive museum of the achievements of Russian rocketry in 1:20 scale and other exhibits of cosmos exploration.
Though the main part of the Planetarium is scheduled to open on November, 4th, the construction of the rest of the museum will last till 2019. And in about a year it will offer tourism programs in several languages. The space beneath the dome is also multi-functional so various business or entertainment event such as concerts or presentations can be held there.
