Great news for all fine art lovers - Russian Museum in St. Petersburg is going to be renovated and in 2 years it will have the latest infrustructure.

The Russian Museum is the first state museum of Russian fine arts in the country. It was established in 1895 in St Petersburg by a decree of the Emperor Nicholas II and housed in the Mikhailovsky Palace.

The palace is going to be renovated and it will have modern facilities that meet the latest standards of museums all around the world. The total capacity will be expanded, the exhibition halls will be bigger in size and several auditoriums will be added. The renovation process will take up to two years.

It has not been decided yet whether the museum will be fully closed and the most prominent expositions will be moved to a different place or some wings will remain open to the public. It may be the last chance for you too see the most famous Russian masterpieces in one place before a big break.
