Nizhny Novgorod is a special city with fascinating history and one more FIFA destination that has been recently visited by RP’s project manager, Ekaterina Mikhailova.

Ekaterina was completely charmed by the city: I fell in love with Nizhny Novgorod when I was only 18! And my dearest friend lives there…So, for me it is one of the best cities in the world. You should visit it in summer or earlier autumn when you can appreciate its natural beauty! Looking at fascinating parks and gardens located along two great rivers, Kremlin with breathtaking views from the tower, ancient structures reminding merchants’ times you feel that it is the place from where Russian power came. Pedestrian streets full of musicians and local cafes which will lead you from the Kremlin walls to the heart of the city – Gorky Square – all of this makes the city unique and attractive. The city has everything you need: places to spend time with the family – like shopping malls and entertaining centers, restaurants, fantastic local beaches on the lakes and rivers, historical sites, spiritual heritage of monasteries and churches. And people…they are always friendly and open.

And what is really interesting is how different the two parts of the city are – lower and upper – industrial and so called “prestigious”, they are like two different worlds. So you can find any entertainment to your liking: starting from simple city activities and finishing, and even MIG flying. In 3 years the infrastructure will be more developed – even now there are lots of foreign tourists in the city, hotels by such famous brands as Azimut, Ibis, Marins Park Hotel. Hotels by Accor Group, Hilton and Marriott are in construction for FIFA championship. It takes about several hours on a comfortable speed train to get to Nizhny Novgorod from Moscow. The stadium for 40 000 people will be constructed by the train station.

The city was built as a fortress in the time of Old Rus’ and it became a merchant mecca in tzarist Russia. Today Nizhny Novgorod is the fourth (fifth according to some other sources) largest city in the Russian Federation, an important economical, transport, and cultural center of Russia. Nizhny Novgorod is conveniently accessible from outside and inside Russia by any of rail, air, or even water way. Nowadays Nizhny Novgorod is a megalopolis with a million places to go. Whether you like Bach or looking forward to clubbing all the night you will definitely find what you want.
