Sochi Olympic Torch Arrives In Moscow
Russkie Prostori continues to follow the news about torch relay. On October 6, the Olympic flame for the Sochi 2014 Winter Games touched down in Moscow on Sunday after traveling from Greece, where it was lit.
The Olympic flame has arrived in Moscow ahead of the 2014 Winter Games scheduled for February in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
The silver-and-red torch was flown into a Moscow airport on October 6, before a motorcade accompanied it to Red Square for a cauldron-lighting ceremony overseen by President Vladimir Putin. The flame later set out on a ceremonial loop through the Kremlin before it begins its official journey across Russia.
The torch relay, which kicked off in Moscow’s Red Square, will span 123 days and scale more than 56,000 kilometers (about 34,797 miles). The torch will be carried by a record-breaking 14,000 different torch bearers before it reaches Sochi for the opening ceremony on Feb. 7, 2014.
