Olympic Torch goes into space
Our DMC is in preparations for the next Winter Olumpics in Sochi following the news about the games! Good news came about 2014 Sochi Olympic Torch going into space!
Two cosmonauts, Kotov and Ryazansky will conduct extra-vehicular activity together with Winter Olympics Torch. The Olympic Torch Relay will start on October 7, 2013. The carriers will run 65 000 km and pass by 2 900 locations in 123 days.
There will be 14 000 bearers of the torch in all. This Relay will be the largest for the history of winter Olympics. Olympic flame will reach North Pole, bottom of Lake Baikal and peak of Mount Everest. Furthermore, for the first time in history of Olympic movement the Olympic Torch will reach the outer space. At the beginning of November, 2013 the torch will be delivered to ISS by “Soyuz TMA-11A” manned transport spacecraft. The cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky will take the torch into space. For the safety purposes it will not be ignited. Cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, who at present time stays on ISS, will return the torch back to Earth
